Creative people are curious, flexible, persistent, and independent with a tremendous spirit of adventure and a love of play. ~Henri Matisse
I hope you have enjoyed playing my Caption Game. I’ve enjoyed your many creative captions. Many of them made me smile. And not a one of you had Robin saying “Holy Toledo” or any of the other holy somethings he said in the show over three hundred times. Can you believe somebody actually counted them? These are from the 120 Batman shows that aired on television in the Sixties. Burt Ward played Robin in that series and he was known for his holy this or that sayings. Generally, whatever he said related to something in the show. Maybe if something was on fire he might say “Holy Flames” or “Holy Smoke.” But I found a link to his twenty most unusual holy something remarks.
Here’s one that made me smile and that fit Wednesday’s picture. In one of the episodes, Cat Woman who was not nice in the shows, was trying to roast them on a grill and Robin shouts, “Holy Oleo” to which Cat Woman smirkily says she didn’t know he could yodel. Some of you may not be familiar with the word oleo but that was what margarine was called back years ago. Oleomargarine that was often shortened to oleo, but now the word has lost out to margarine.
Here’s another of the twenty listed that made me smile. In this episode Minerva played by Zsa Zsa Gabor had a spa that somehow made rich clients tell their deepest secrets. When her goons are taking Batman and Robin there, they have this exchange.
Batman: Yes, I’m looking forward to Minerva’s famous eggplant-jelly vitamin scalp massage.
Goon: Minerva thought you might pop into the Persimmon Pressurizer first.
Robin: Persimmon Pressurizer? Holy astringent plum-like fruit!
Batman: Only astringent until ripe, Robin.
Of course, I like this one because of the persimmon reference since I’ve posted on here about persimmons and getting a kid to eat one as a passage of youth since before they are ripe they do pucker your mouth. Here’s the link if you want to explore other weird holy remarks made by Robin in that show. I’m always amazed at what you can find on the internet.
But though you didn’t make any holy caption jokes, you did come up with some great captions. A couple of you noticed the woman in rollers photo bombing the shot accidentally. I liked Hope’s caption that said Batman (AKA Wiener dog) had to learn not to chase Cat Woman. Carol said they weren’t admitted to the grocery store even though they had on masks. Not the right kind, I guess. And I wished I’d thought of Ola’s to title the post. “Unlikely Heroes. ” So what’s my caption for the Batman picture? “Holy Moley. Let me out of this Batman costume or I’m going to bite something.”

I snapped this post’s caption picture the other night when the grandkids were here playing Canasta. Their new puppy seemed very ready to help. But I get the feeling he’s trying to peer over into somebody else’s hand to help his girl play the right card. Some of my grandgirls love to play cards. I think these girls may have taken that after their grandmothers since my mom and her mom loved to play cards and so does the girls’ other grandmother too. And of course, there’s little doubt on where they got their dog loving hearts.
Hope coming up with captions for my pictures this game has been full of play for you. Creative play has to be good for the brain and we all know smiles are good for us too.
So what’s your caption for my card playing puppy?
You can’t use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have. ~Maya Angelou
